Learn to read waterway environments with Indigenous knowledge using a hands-on approach to look at waterway insects, the plants around them,  and the role they have in their environment. 

Diversity of insects in all environments is incredibly important for ecosystem health. Learn how insects play a key role in regulating different processes, such as controlling mosquitos, helping plants, and feeding birds. 

Join us in learning the significance of soils in our local ecosystems. Beyond just the texture and composition of one sample, soils and the vegetation growing in them play a key role in ground water recharge, weather regulation, insect habitat, and aquatic health. 

While testing water quality can require scientific measurement tools, using traditional Ojibwe knowledge we can learn essential information about waterways and how to restore their health. 

Learn to see the environment in a new way, identifying local plants as indicator species from the traditional Ojibwe perspective. Use all your senses (except taste!) to read the environment using plants, their ecological roles, and their many interactions.

 Hills, valleys, creeks, and everything in between have a story to tell. Join us in reading the landscape and its significance from the traditional Ojibwe perspective, learning the environmental importance of each feature and the history of Manitoba along the way.

We monitor the environment over a broad area of Manitoba, using our traditional Ojibwe knowledge and Western scientific perspectives to read ecosystems. Join us in the field or request us to come to you and see the environment through our eyes as we read the landscape around us.
